{"id":608,"date":"2011-08-22T06:15:40","date_gmt":"2011-08-22T10:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/epistleofchrist.org\/?p=608"},"modified":"2011-08-22T06:15:40","modified_gmt":"2011-08-22T10:15:40","slug":"lords-prayer","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/epistleofchrist.org\/?page_id=608","title":{"rendered":"Lord&#8217;s Prayer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The so-called Lord\u2019s Prayer in Mt. 6:9-13 is often misunderstood.\u00a0 It is called the Lord\u2019s Prayer, but is it really?\u00a0 Our Lord is God, so why does He have to pray.\u00a0 This prayer is a model for all prayers.\u00a0 Pay close attention to the words of Jesus Mt. 6:9; \u201c\u2026..<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">after this manner therefore pray ye\u2026..\u201d\u00a0 This prayer is not Jesus praying to the Father, but for a guideline as to how mankind ought to pray.\u00a0 This prayer is all spiritual; nothing physical; including the bread that is mentioned.\u00a0 Let\u2019s examine the passages in this prayer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Our Father\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This indicates our heavenly father (God) a spirit being; therefore it is spiritual.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Which are in Heaven<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 The spiritual father resides in a spiritual place.\u00a0 Sure Heaven is a real place, but \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0to us now, it is not a physical place.\u00a0 One has to be in a spiritual body in order to \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0occupy a spiritual place.\u00a0 Physical resides in physical and spiritual resides in \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0spiritual.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Hallowed be thy name<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The word (hallowed), means worthy of reverence. \u00a0This is an emotional \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 expression. \u00a0Although emotions are sometimes acted out through praise and \u00a0 worship, it is still an inner feeling or expression of love.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Thy kingdom come<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This kingdom signifies utopia; a place of love, joy, peace, and happiness.\u00a0 Again \u00a0\u00a0 this is an inner kingdom or place.\u00a0 Observe Luke 17:21, \u201c\u2026..the kingdom of God \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 is within you.\u201d\u00a0 The kingdom being prayed for to come is a spiritual place; from \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 within.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Thy will be done on earth as in heaven<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The focus of the passage is the will of God.\u00a0 The will of God is recorded in John 6\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 :40; \u201c\u2026..this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 and believeth on him, may have everlasting life\u2026..\u201d \u00a0\u00a0The prayer indicates that \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 His will (intent or purpose) for mankind is to believe on Jesus.\u00a0 A person\u2019s (will) \u00a0\u00a0 is spiritual, something abstract.\u00a0 The idea is that all mankind will have the same \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 utopia here on earth as already exists in heaven.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Give us this day our daily bread<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The daily bread here is not food as we commonly think of it.\u00a0 This is the daily \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 bread or spiritual food that we need to sustain our faith; not only our faith but our \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 very lives.\u00a0 That bread is Jesus, according to John 6:35, \u201c\u2026..Jesus said unto \u00a0\u00a0 them, I am the bread of life\u2026..\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Forgive us our debts<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Again the debts mentioned here are our sins; better known as unrighteousness.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Our debts are not of any monetary value; it\u2019s much more than that; it is the \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 forgiveness of all unrighteousness paid in full by Jesus; Col. 1:14, \u201cIn whom we \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 have redemption through his blood, <em>even<\/em> the forgiveness of sins.\u201d\u00a0 Forgiveness is \u00a0 a spiritual emotion, because it comes from within.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">As we forgive our debtors<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Forgiveness is a change of heart; meaning it is spiritual.\u00a0 Spiritual things always \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 produce natural or physical results and forgiveness is reciprocal; Mt 6:14-15, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201c\u2026..if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 you\u2026..but if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father \u00a0\u00a0 forgive \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 your trespasses.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Lead us not into temptation<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Temptation is a thought or desire to have something that you know is not \u00a0 beneficial to you.\u00a0 These thoughts or desires are spiritual.\u00a0 God does not lead \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 anyone into temptation; James 1:13, \u201clet no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 any \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 man.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">But deliver us from evil<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Evil is a moral weakness; again spiritual.\u00a0 God always gives mankind a way out of \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 temptation; however it is still man\u2019s choice to accept or reject the way out that God has provided; 1 Cor. 10:13, \u201c\u2026..but will with the temptation also make a \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 way to escape, that ye may be able to bear <em>it<\/em>.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 God\u2019s kingdom is heaven (spiritual place); John 18:36, \u201c\u2026..My kingdom is not of \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 this world\u2026..\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 God\u2019s power is the ability to do anything according to his will; Mt. 28:18, \u201c\u2026..All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Glory is a state of extreme honor and beauty.\u00a0 The glory of God cannot be \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 imagined by man; 1 Cor. 2:9, \u201c\u2026..eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared\u2026..\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Forever<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Forever is definitely spiritual.\u00a0 Man cannot comprehend how long infinity will \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 last.\u00a0 Forever is mind-boggling, therefore it is spiritual.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Amen\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Amen means \u201cso be it\u201d.\u00a0 Jesus is speaking to the disciples and after He finished \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 speaking, He said, \u201camen\u201d or (so be it), the words he just spoke.\u00a0 Words are spirit;\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 John 6:63, \u201c\u2026..the words that I speak unto you, <em>they<\/em> are spirit\u2026..\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;
