Most people think that hell is limited to pain and suffering. That thought process isn’t wrong, but it isn’t exactly correct either. The word hell in the Greek has several meanings. One meaning of hell is hades, which means a place for departed souls; in other words, it means the grave or death. Another meaning for hell is gehenna, which means a place of everlasting punishment. Jesus experienced hell (hades), simply because he physically died, but He did not experience any pain & suffering in hell (gehenna). The reason being, Jesus never committed any sins; therefore he could not experience any pain & suffering in hell (gehenna), after he died. No, Jesus did not suffer when He went to hell (hades) and he never went to hell (gehenna). The only pain and suffering that Jesus experienced was the brutal beating and torture he received just prior to his death on the cross.

Question: Did Jesus suffer when he went to hell?
