{"id":783,"date":"2011-11-01T10:47:36","date_gmt":"2011-11-01T14:47:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/epistleofchrist.org\/?p=783"},"modified":"2011-11-01T10:47:36","modified_gmt":"2011-11-01T14:47:36","slug":"is-there-such-a-thing-as-silent-prayer","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/epistleofchrist.org\/?page_id=783","title":{"rendered":"Is there such a thing as silent prayer?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><strong>Question:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Is there such a thing as silent prayer?<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><strong>Answer:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The phrase silent prayer is used quite often in church circles. \u00a0Prayer primarily means: to speak or talk to God as a form of worship coupled with supplication or petition.\u00a0 \u00a0When one prays, he has to use words in order to petition God.\u00a0 If you eliminate words, it isn\u2019t prayer: it\u2019s called meditation.\u00a0 When one meditates he\u2019s in a state of intense thinking concerning spiritual matters.\u00a0 No words are involved while meditating; only thoughts.\u00a0 We are to make our thoughts known; Phi. 4:6, \u201c\u2026..let your requests be made known unto God.\u201d\u00a0 Thoughts cannot be made known unless you literally say what you are thinking; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Throughout the New Testament, it is clear that one have to ask for the desires of his heart; James 4:2, \u201c\u2026..ye have not, because ye ask not.\u201d\u00a0 Again, Jesus declared that what ever you say; Mark 11:23, \u201c\u2026..whosoever shall <strong>say<\/strong>\u2026..those things which he <strong>saith<\/strong>\u2026..he shall have whatsoever he <strong>saith<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0 Even God used words during the creation of the world; Gen. 1:3, \u201c\u2026..<strong>God said<\/strong>, Let there be light: and there was light.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jesus also said that he will hear the prayers of the righteous; 1 Peter 3:12, \u201c\u2026..and his ears <em>are open<\/em> unto their prayers.\u201d\u00a0 Something have to be <em>said<\/em> before it came be heard.\u201d\u00a0 Thoughts or meditation is silent; not heard.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The implication throughout the Bible is that a prayer has to be spoken and not silent.\u00a0 Some will say Hannah prayed a silent prayer; 1 Sam.1:13, \u201c\u2026..she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard\u2026..\u201d\u00a0 Hannah was in engaged in effectual fervent prayer.\u00a0 She began praying using words, but because of her heaviness of heart, words no longer flowed from her mouth; 1 Sam. 1:11, \u201c\u2026..she vowed a vow, and <strong>said<\/strong>\u2026.\u201d\u00a0 Later in the chapter, it is obvious that she did ask God for a son; 1 Sam 1:27, \u201c\u2026..the LORD hath given me my petition which I <strong>asked<\/strong> of him.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There are others who think they are keeping Satan from intercepting their words when they pray silently. \u00a0The answer to this dilemma is to speak in tongues.\u00a0 When you speak in tongues, Satan does not know what you are saying, because you don\u2019t even know what you are saying; 1 Cor.14:14, \u201c\u2026..if I pray in an <em>unknown<\/em> tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.\u201d\u00a0 Even an unknown tongue is making an audible sound.\u00a0 Reflect back on the words spoken by James 4:2, \u201c\u2026..ye have not, because ye ask not.\u201d\u00a0 He did not say, \u201cyou have not because you <strong>think<\/strong> not.\u00a0 I am under the impression that if you pray silently, then the answer will be unfruitful, because the prayer was never heard.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Question:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Is there such a thing as silent prayer?
