{"id":862,"date":"2012-01-05T08:25:48","date_gmt":"2012-01-05T12:25:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/epistleofchrist.org\/?p=862"},"modified":"2012-01-05T08:25:48","modified_gmt":"2012-01-05T12:25:48","slug":"voting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epistleofchrist.org\/?p=862","title":{"rendered":"Voting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s that time again, when we hold our presidential elections.\u00a0 This is the season when many churches forget about their spiritual obligations and take a political stand.\u00a0 Whenever a presidential election is on the horizon, all of a sudden, churches begin to inform their members to \u2018vote the Bible.\u2019\u00a0\u00a0 One should not \u2018vote the Bible\u2019 every four years.\u00a0 One should \u2018live the Bible\u2019 on a daily basis.\u00a0 Regardless to who win the election, it will not significantly change your life.\u00a0 Your life is determined by the decisions you make on a daily basis, not by a vote every four years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The thing that really strikes me as odd, it that, usually the only elections, that churches urge their members to \u2018vote the Bible\u2019 is presidential elections.\u00a0 Presidents do not make laws.\u00a0 Their job description is to support or uphold the laws of the land.\u00a0 The question is, who make the laws.\u00a0 It certainly isn\u2019t the president.\u00a0 It is state, local, and federal congressmen that formulate the laws of the land.\u00a0 Once the laws are legislated, the people can then challenge them.\u00a0 Once challenged, a judge or panel of judges gets to uphold the law or declare it unconstitutional.\u00a0\u00a0 The president is far removed from the legislative process.\u00a0 In every presidential election, churches remind their members to \u2018vote the Bible\u2019, but you rarely hear them make that statement when a congressman or a judge is running for election.\u00a0 Shouldn\u2019t more focus actually be on congressmen and judges, rather than the president?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Actually, churches and church leaders do not scrutinize their day-to-day associations with the same vigor that they apply to presidential elections.\u00a0 When it comes right down to it, it doesn\u2019t matter to them, if their lawyer is a homosexual as long as he wins their case.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t matter if their doctor had or performed an abortion, so long as she is a renowned specialist.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t matter if their dentist is having an affair with his assistant, so long as he can eliminate the pain now.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The United States Constitution is based on separation of church and state.\u00a0 That seems to be the norm, until a presidential election is looming in the background.<\/p>\n<p>Immediately, churches go into high gear trying to combine church and state by saturating religion with political issues.\u00a0 Churches should stay out of politics and politicians should stay out of religion.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The requirements for electing a president are different from the requirements for electing a religious leader.\u00a0 When electing a president, politics should be the top priority.\u00a0 When electing a religious leader, then the Bible should be the focal point.\u00a0 All too often, churches fail to realize that they are not electing a religious leader when voting in a presidential election.
