Who is us, in “let us make man in our image?”

Question: Gen. 1:26 states that God said, “Let us make man in our image…..” Who is the “us”?

Answer: The “us” mentioned in Gen. 1:26 would have to be a being(s) of a heavenly nature, simply because he or they are in the presence of God. From scripture we know that Jesus was in the beginning; John 1:1, “in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God…..” The word became a man in John 1:14, “…..the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…..the only begotten of the Father…..” Man was created to look like his creator; Gen. 1:26, “…..Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…..” Mankind has never seen God, but mankind has seen Jesus. Jesus was a man and Adam was the first man; therefore Jesus and Adam are the same image and likeness. Jesus was in the beginning with God and man is made in the same image of Jesus; therefore the “us” mentioned in Gen. 1:26 is God and the Word (Jesus).
