Samuel is the name of two Old Testament books of the Bible and the name of a prophet, and the name means heard of God.
- 1 Samuel is the ninth book of the Bible, and it consists of 31 chapters and 810 verses. It records the kingship's transition, from Saul to David, and the priesthood's change, from the Levites to the tribe of Judah.
- 2 Samuel is the 10th book of the Bible, and it consists of 24 chapters and 695 verses. It records the reign of David. During David's reign, he encountered numerous challenges. David committed adultery. One of his sons raped his daughter. One of his sons ordered the murder of another son. One of his sons turned against him and had sexual relations with his concubines on the rooftop.
- Samuel is the son of Elkanah and Hannah. His birth is miraculous because Hannah, his mother, was barren for many years. She prayed to God and promised God that if he gave her a son, she would give him back to the Lord. Hannah conceived, and Samuel was born. After Samuel's weaning, his mother took him to the temple to live, as she had vowed. He became a prophet, priest, and the last judge of Israel. Samuel anointed Saul as the first king of Israel. First and Second Samuel at two books of the Old Testament presumed to be written by him. When Samuel died, they buried him in the town of Ramah. After his death, a fortune-teller communicated with him from the grave.
