Esther is a book of the Old Testament and a queen.
- Esther is the 17th book of the Bible, and it consists of 10 chapters and 167 verses.
- Esther and her family were Hebrew captives in the Persian kingdom. Her given name was Hadassah, but her Persian name was Esther. Her mother and father were no longer alive, so Mordecai, her parents' nephew, reared Hadassah as his daughter. One of the kingdom's officials, Haman, had concocted exterminating all the Jews. At Mordecai's request, she visited the king to prevent Haman from annihilating the Jewish race. The plan was successful, and Esther became the new queen of Persia. Because of Esther's action, Purim, a religious holiday, was born.
