Sacrifices and Offerings are rituals that God commands. Sacrifice means killing an animal, and offerings mean making amends for a favor.
- The Drink Offering is a liquid offering given to the Lord. Wine is usually the liquid used for the drink offering.
- The Grain Offering is also called a meal or meat offering. Ironically, it is sometimes known as a meat offering because it is meatless and does not consist of any blood at all, and it is a voluntary offering.
- The Peace Offering is an offering of compensation, and it is a voluntary offering. There are three types of peace offerings: the freewill offering, the thanksgiving offering, and the vow.
- The Trespass Offering is compulsory because one is guilty of an offense. It consists of sacrificing an animal because it is a blood offering, and it also involves making restitution for the violation.
- Meat Offerings are also called meal or grain offerings. It does not consist of any blood, and it is entirely voluntary.
- The Sin Offering is compulsory because it's always associated with guilt. This offering requires blood; therefore, it's mandatory to sacrifice an animal.
- The Burnt Offering is voluntary. It consists of the body of an animal burning on the altar—burnt means to ascend or rise. The smoke from the sacrifice ascends into the atmosphere; as the sacrificial animal burns on the altar, the animal transforms from a physical form to a spiritual state.
- The Wave Offering is a peace offering, and it's a voluntary offering. Wave means brandishing, and the priest waves the offering before the Lord. It is associated with the heave offering because once an offering is heaved (lifted), the priest waves it before the Lord.
- The Heave Offering is a peace offering, and it's a voluntary offering. Heave mean o rise or raise;t therefore, one presents the Heave Offerings before the Lord. It is associated with the wave offering because one heaves (raise) the offering before waving it before the Lord.
