Paul was an apostle, but he became an apostle after the death of Jesus. He was of Roman and Hebrew descent, born in Tarsus of Asia Minor. Gamaliel taught Paul the meaning and purpose of Old Testament scriptures. One of the first things he did to make himself famous, was to persecute the church. On the road to Damascus to arrest some of the disciples, Paul encountered the Lord. The Spirit knocked him down to the ground, and he remained blind for three days. Ananias laid hands on him, and immediately the scales fell from his eyes. He received his sight, and he accepted and received baptism. After Paul became born-again, he traveled extensively, teaching and preaching the word of God. He is famous for authoring most of the New Testament. He spent a big part of his later years in prison.
