Gamaliel was an instructor of Jewish Law and Paul's teacher. Gamaliel means God is my recompense. He instructed the Jewish leaders not to be too harsh with the new Christians because if Jesus were indeed a false prophet, his teachings would soon fade away. On the other hand, if Jesus was genuine, they could not stop it anyway.
